If you would like to adopt a pet from our facility, there are a few points that you should know:

  • Our pets have had physical exams, vaccinations, treatment for parasites (internal and external), and if they are old enough, they have had lab work and have been spayed or neutered.
  • We have worked hard to socialize our critters so they have nice, sweet personalities.  The puppies have attended our puppy class.
  • All money for their care comes from contributions to our Milo, Morrison, Ethi, Opie (MMEO) Memorial Fund, a non profit, tax exempt fund set up especially for this purpose.
  • When a dog is adopted from us, they get to take our K-9 Good Citizen (basic obedience) class for free... this is a $75.00 value.
  • Because of this care, we have an adoption fee of $75.00. This money is funneled back to our MMEO Memorial Fund to help he next pet that needs care and a home.  If they have already been spayed or neutered, you will be asked to pay the Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic price for the surgery of $60 for dogs and $45 for cats, in addition to the adoption fee.  If the pet has not been spayed or neutered, you are required by Virginia State Law to have it done within 30 days of adoption or when they are old enough (if the animal is juvenile).  The only facilities approved for this surgery are SVVS or the Margaret B. Mitchell Spay/Neuter Clinic.
  • All adoptions are subject to approval and we reserve the right to deny adoption to anyone for any reason.
